Some deregulation in proposals to amend Seveso Directive

Proposals to amend the 1996 EU Directive on major accident hazards were published by the European Commission in December.1 As expected, they cover mines and explosives sites, and make detailed changes to the rules covering petroleum installations and chemicals sites - with some of these likely to drop out of the Seveso regime. A response to the recent disaster in Toulouse has been put off for the time being.
