Yorkshire's £7,000 fine for sewage failure
Yorkshire Water was fined £7,000 on 27 February for causing 8.7 million gallons of raw sewage to enter the river Calder in May last year. Dewsbury magistrates heard that the company failed to respond to an emergency warning which tripped when the main inlet pumps to Mitchell Laithes treatment works failed at 11.30pm. The fault was discovered by workers arriving at the site the following morning.
