Regional waste planning 'too cumbersome and remote'
Looming EU targets to reduce the use of landfill mean that decisions on new waste facilities will have to be taken at local level because the emerging regional planning framework is too cumbersome and remote from the political process, according to several speakers at a recent conference in London. Delegates also expressed disappointment at the absence of measures on waste planning in the recent Green Paper on planning.
