Mining sector's sustainable development challenge

Sustainable development offers a particularly thorny challenge to the global mining and minerals industry. Many of the sharpest concerns are linked to the industry's record on human rights, relationships with indigenous peoples, allegations of corruption and its role in the economies and political systems of developing countries. As a result, the industry has come under strong pressure from parts of the investment community.
