The electricity industry is advocating voluntary action to limit emissions of the potent greenhouse gas sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) in the hope of staving off proposed EU regulation. But its stockpile of the gas is increasing rapidly - and could pose problems when equipment reaches the end of its life.
