Brown pledges cash for farm audits but defers on recycling

Funding to implement a new environmental management scheme for farms was announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown in his comprehensive spending review in July, paving the way for a new agriculture strategy later this year. A major expansion of housing investment was also announced, with possible repercussions for the green belt in the South East. Decisions on funding for municipal waste services have been deferred till the autumn.
