Welsh Water fined over sewage discharge

Welsh Water was ordered to pay £2,766 in fines and costs by Carmarthen magistrates on 15 July after admitting polluting a tributary of the river Gwili with crude sewage. The discharge occurred from Brynmeillion sewage pumping station in November last year following a pump failure. Sewage overflowed into a ditch causing abundant growths of grey fungus and poor biological quality of the watercourse.
