South West Water fined for two consent breaches
South West Water has been fined £2,500 for breaching the conditions of its consent to discharge sewage effluent from its St Columb sewage works. On 9 July Bodmin magistrates heard that routine monitoring by the Environment Agency had found that effluent from the works contained excessive levels of biochemical oxygen demand on three occasions in the year preceding 21 November 2001. The company's consent allows only two breaches in any year.
