New Severn barrage plans hit wildlife objections

Developers are claiming that the economic case for a £10-14 billion tidal barrage across the Severn estuary has improved since the scheme was dropped in 1989, and are calling for Government backing. But the proposal still faces serious opposition because of its impacts on wildlife habitats - and environmental groups are promoting emerging tidal lagoon technology as an alternative.
