Great Lakes' flame retardant faces restrictions

Restrictions on the brominated flame retardant HBCD appear increasingly likely after a Government expert committee confirmed the chemical to be "very persistent and very bioaccumulative" in February. New data suggest that Great Lakes Chemical's works in Newton Aycliffe has contaminated the local environment with the compound through releases to both air and water.
