Thames Water fined for sewage failure
In July 2001, the Environment Agency discovered a discharge of sewage into the Boundary brook in Southall, west London. The brook flows into the Aviary lakes on the National Trust's Osterley Park property and fish were found to be in distress. Agency staff were forced to remove thousands of live fish from the lakes and oxygenate the water with hydrogen peroxide to avoid a major fish kill.
