Landfill operators face new pressure on lining systems

More than two dozen landfill liner failures in England over the past few years have been recorded for the first time by a study commissioned by the Environment Agency. The EU landfill Directive is expected to force higher standards of liner design - and the study suggests that slope lining systems in common use in old rock quarries are in particular need of improvement.
