Compost sector waits for news while MPs hear retailers' beef over waste food
The composting industry is facing continued delays to regulations that will legalise and control the composting of kitchen and catering waste. The new delays are linked to controversy elsewhere on the animal by-products agenda, the House of Commons Environment Committee heard in May. The retail sector has been lobbying hard against controls on the disposal of waste food, and farmers are proving reluctant to sign up to a scheme for collecting fallen stock.
