Reading the runes of the CRC review

The Carbon Reduction is going to be made simpler but will not be radically reshaped. ENDS forecasts the three changes to the scheme that the government is most likely to introduce.

  • EU ducks mandatory energy efficiency targets

The European Council has failed to move to mandatory energy efficiency standards despite widespread evidence of policy failure. But it has called for new standards and research that would pave the way for an EU-wide smart grid
  • Energy NPSs could unleash new dash for gas, say MPs

The House of Commons’ Energy and Climate Change Committee is “extremely concerned” that the government’s redrafted energy national policy statements do not mesh with the UK’s carbon budgets, risking a new gas generation boom.
