Agency to reveal priorities on toxicity consents
The Environment Agency expects to go public shortly on priority discharges to be regulated through toxicity-based consents. The move brings to a head a decade-long project to regulate complex effluents according to their toxicity to aquatic organisms - but the process has arrived too late for the first tranche of chemical industry applications under the integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) regime.
