Proposals to amend scope of IPC, local air pollution control

A large number of smaller industrial processes would be transferred from integrated pollution control (IPC) to local authority air pollution control under proposals for reforming Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 issued by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 19 March.1 But some processes, notably various iron and steel and pharmaceutical operations, would come under IPC for the first time. Significant changes are also being considered by the DoE for processes emitting volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
