Pall over future air quality as clean air grants are scrapped

The 37-year old system of clean air grants is to be scrapped in England and Wales in 1995, the Department of the Environment (DoE) has announced in a circular.1 The decision will deprive local authorities of financial assistance needed to improve air quality to within guidelines recommended by the EC and the Government itself.
