Solvay Interox fined £12,000 for polluting Mersey

Chemical manufacturer Solvay Interox has been prosecuted successfully for an illegal discharge which polluted three kilometres of the river Mersey. The case was unusual in that it provoked a threat from the National Rivers Authority (NRA) to demand a shut-down of the operation unless the pollution was halted.
