Deregulation drive takes off as Environment Bill is postponed

The Government's deregulation initiative is gathering steam. With the Bill to establish an Environment Agency dropped from the legislative programme for the second year running and a Deregulation Bill set to take its place, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is urging businesses to put forward proposals for scrapping environmental legislation. The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has responded with alacrity, submitting a hit-list of laws which it wants to see abolished or watered down.
