Tories object to EU chemicals agency

The Conservative Party's opposition to any further centralisation of powers within the EU spilled over into the chemicals regulation arena in June, when it hit out at the proposal for a European Chemicals Agency to manage key tasks under the new REACH regime. The Tory stance conflicts not only with the Government's policy but with the chemical industry's demands for the Agency to have comprehensive powers over the REACH process.
