Time to question carbon credits

The Kyoto Protocol's clean development mechanism - which allows industrialised nations to claim carbon credits by investing in emission reduction projects in the developing world - has long been a battleground for environmental groups. Their main concerns have been the eligibility of carbon "sinks", large hydro schemes and nuclear power, reinforced by ever-present concerns over whether emission reductions are "additional".
