Local authorities slam DEFRA over landfill trading scheme

Local authorities have heavily criticised the Environment Department (DEFRA) for its handling of the landfill allowance trading scheme - with only nine months to go before the scheme starts. Controversially, the Department has given local authorities tacit approval to price themselves out of commercial waste collection so they can meet the scheme's biodegradable waste targets.
