Drop in bathing water compliance blamed on the weather

A slight drop in bathing water compliance across the UK in 2004 was blamed on a wet summer by the Environment Department (DEFRA). Some 97.7% of coastal bathing waters met the mandatory EU bacteriological quality standards, compared with 98.4% last year.
