Government pulls back in dispute over emissions trading allocation

The Government has pulled back from a damaging row with the European Commission over the EU emissions trading scheme - but is initiating legal action to increase the UK’s allocation. The Commission’s tough line with the UK and some of the new Member States has sent a bullish signal to the market, increasing the forecast price for carbon significantly.
