Hickson fined o250,000 after fatal management failures

Hickson & Welch, the Yorkshire chemical company, has been fined o250,000 for serious breaches of safety legislation which resulted in the deaths of five employees at its Castleford site last September. According to the judge who heard the case, the incident was due to "a clear gap in an employer's management that should never have occurred".
