Licensing exemptions proposed for WEEE storage and repair

Draft regulations and guidance setting out proposals for the licensing of sites for the treatment, storage and refurbishment of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in England and Wales were issued by the Environment Department (DEFRA) in May.1 Existing operators must apply for a licence or licensing "exemption" by 31 March 2006. Proposed new exemptions will need European Commission approval because some WEEE is classified as hazardous waste.
