Commission promises revision of drinking water Directive

Modifications to the controversial EC Directive on drinking water quality will be proposed next year, the European Commission announced at a conference in Brussels in September. The Commission appears to favour the retention of aesthetic parameters in the Directive, and may consider including procedures to govern instances of non-compliance with the existing limits for pesticides - but the UK is pressing for a much more far-reaching overhaul under the umbrella of science and subsidiarity.
