NRA, HMIP in Budget squeeze

Britain's two main pollution control agencies are facing a cash squeeze in the wake of the Budget. The National Rivers Authority (NRA) has had its grant-in-aid from the Department of the Environment (DoE) slashed, while HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) is under severe pressure to rein back its recruitment drive because of cuts in the DoE's own environmental protection budget.
