Plan pledges to end ‘avoidable’ plastic waste by 2042

Consumption of plastic will be tackled by extending England’s 5p charge on single-use plastic bags to cover all retailers, as is already the case in Wales and Scotland, the 25-year plan confirms. It also says that the government will launch a call for evidence this year seeking views on how the tax system or charges could reduce the amount of single use plastics waste across the whole lifecycle of a product, where this is technically, environmentally and economically practicable. The measures are intended to help deliver a pledge to eliminate “avoidable” plastic waste by 2042. MORE
