Dr Maria Noguer, former climate scientist at the Met Office and IPCC, shares her insights on her role as programme manager of a space agency-funded renewable energy programme

What has helped you get where you are in your career?

I did a degree in physics and a masters in meteorology and for many years I worked at the Met Office as a climate scientist – that gave me a sound scientific background.

However, I was more attracted towards the impact of scientific research on policy and people at large, so I joined the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – that helped me to create a vast circle of contacts and exposed me to the international context.
