DfT launches consultation on new offence for emissions cheat devices

The government is proposing to extend rules on defeat devices in the same week that two haulage companies were penalised over AdBlue emulators

The Department for Transport (DFT) has published proposals that will make it an offence for anyone in the UK to supply a vehicle with an emissions defeat device.

The department published a consultation on 2 February, setting out the scope for the new offence, which will cover registering or putting vehicles on the market that have devices aimed at “deliberately circumventing” emissions rules.
