Environment and waste services squeezed in local government budgets

The latest survey of local government finances has revealed that environment and waste services are under pressure in council budgets

Nearly 10% of council leaders flagged environment and waste services as their biggest immediate financial pressure, according to a survey.

The poll, released by the Local Government Information Unit and MJ magazine on 8 February, asked council leaders, chief executives, cabinet members for finance and resources and directors of finance and resources at England’s 353 councils about key financial pressures they face.
