UK wind power capacity rises to 18.9GW ahead of feed-in tariff changes

Feared changes in feed-in tariffs have encouraged investors to push projects “through the gate”, resulting in a jump in installed capacity throughout Europe, trade body says

The UK now has 18.9GW of wind power capacity installed, comprising over a tenth of the total wind power in Europe (169.3GW), according to a report.

Figures published by trade body WindEurope showed that onshore wind in the UK increased by 2.6GW in 2017, while offshore wind capacity increased by 1.7GW. In Europe as a whole, onshore capacity rose by 12.5GW compared to 3.2GW for offshore wind.
