Official figures published last month show that much progress has been made in reducing the amount of pollutants entering the atmosphere at a national level. The data, published by DEFRA, shows that in most cases emissions of potentially harmful substances are falling, with bulk releases of nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide down 10% and 29% respectively between 2015 and 2016.
