Welsh announces more funding for recycling as performance improves

After excelling once again in its recycling performance, Wales is unlocking more funds for councils while commentators say it shows the scale of investment needed across the whole of the UK

By 2050 Wales also wants all of its waste to be reused or recycled without the need for any landfill or energy recovery.

The Welsh government has made £7.5m of funding available for local authorities to help them improve their recycling services.

Welsh environment minister Hannah Blythyn made the announcement on 27 February, less than a week after the latest recycling figures revealed Wales’ recycling rate stood at 12% above the UK average.
