NAO to review government's inaction on ‘opaque’ and ‘flawed’ PRN system

Producers have welcomed a review into the government's failure to reform the PRN system that is aimed at ensuring big businesses meet their obligations to recycle

The National Audit Office (NAO) is to hold a review into the government’s failure to reform the packaging recovery note (PRN) scheme.

The review, announced on 9 March, is a result of a request from the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC), which says the current PRN system “is opaque, and could be subject to fraud and non-compliance”.
