Single-use plastics targeted in Spring Statement

Chancellor Philip Hammond has published a call for evidence on how the tax system can be used to reduce the amount of single-use plastic waste

A wide-ranging call for evidence on single-use plastics and barriers to their reduction, reuse and recycling has been launched by chancellor Philip Hammond.

Hammond pledged in the autumn budget to discourage single-use plastics through the tax system, with prime minister Theresa May following this up in the 25-Year Environment Plan with a commitment to end “avoidable” plastic waste by 2042.
