Waste industry objects to new WEEE collection targets

The government needs to urgently deal with illegal leakage of WEEE rather than reduce collection targets, the waste industry has said.

The environment department (DEFRA) last week published an informal consultation on collection targets for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for 2018. It proposed a 2018 household WEEE collections target of 532,818 tonnes, a reduction from the 2017 target of 621,990.
