A new approach to flood defence is needed to protect England, according to Environment Agency chief executive James Bevan.

Speaking at a flood and coastal erosion conference in Telford, the EA chief said rising sea levels and burgeoning populations in built-up areas will lead to increased flood risk and that current approaches “may not be enough”.
