Natural England needs adequate resources and independence to be effective but currently “enjoys neither of these essential prerequisites”, according to a House of Lords select committee report.

The report, published today, set out a raft of damning conclusions about the delivery of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2006 and Natural England’s performance.
