DEFRA has provided just under £2.4m to English local and mayoral authorities for local air quality monitoring, feasibility studies and improvement projects.

The sixteen winning projects, involving 67 authorities in all, were announced on 23 March as DEFRA opened up its £220 million Clean Air Fund for bidding. The sum awarded is greater than the £2m minimum that DEFRA announced last year, although significantly smaller than the record £3.7m allocated in the previous round.
