Ministers have announced further measures to support the development of shale gas extraction in a statement laid before parliament. In a written ministerial statement published on 17 May, communities secretary James Brokenshire reiterated the government’s view that there are “substantial benefits from the safe and sustainable exploration and development of our onshore shale gas resources”.
