Road to zero strategy ‘falls short of expectations’, says CCC

Official UK climate change adviser criticises the government’s electric vehicle strategy, saying its reliance on the private sector is “risky”

Plans to electrify UK vehicles are not the “groundbreaking strategy” the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) had hoped for, it said.

The strategy, published on Tuesday, outlines proposals to ensure that all new homes have electric vehicle charging points and that all new cars and vans are to be “effectively” zero emission by 2040 and “almost every car and van” to be zero emissions by 2050.
