Boris Johnson has told fellow MPs that the UK is volunteering for regulatory ‘vassalage’ with the EU, including on the crucial issue of the environment, as he explained why he resigned from the government.

In his resignation speech to the Commons yesterday, he set out his reasons for rejecting the Chequer’s agreement on Brexit which he famously agreed to on Friday 6 July only to reject by the following Monday.
