Lead ammunition is a risk to both wetlands and the terrestrial environment and its use should be regulated, according to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

In a report published on 12 September, ECHA said it had found “sufficient evidence of risk” to the terrestrial environment to justify additional controls on the use of lead in ammunition such as gunshot and bullets. It also wants tighter controls on the use of lead fishing weights.
