The UK appears to be under-reporting numbers of contaminated sites, according to a European Commission report on the status of soil contamination in the bloc.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC), the commission’s science and knowledge service, published its assessment of how member states were progressing on the management of contaminated land and found that the UK showed a “low number of sites… where it would be expected to be higher due to [its] industrial past”.
