River and lake quality in Northern Ireland has slightly decreased between 2015 and 2018, according to figures released by Northern Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.

In 2018, 31% of the region’s river water bodies were classified as “good” or better, compared with 32.3% in 2015. Only 5 out of 21 lake water bodies were classified as “good” or better in 2018, the same numerical split as in 2015, but two lakes have been degraded to “poor” from “moderate”.
