Holyrood outlines opposition to post-Brexit carbon tax

Scottish government sources have said they would oppose a UK-wide carbon tax to replace the EU’s emissions trading scheme (ETS) after Brexit.

Speaking to Climate Home News, a government spokesperson said a carbon tax would shift responsibility for Scotland’s emissions from Holyrood to Westminister.

“Scottish ministers have written to the UK government expressing their concern about the lack of clarity on [the] ETS and the impact on stakeholders,” the spokesperson said.
