Wessex Water claims to be the first utility company in the UK to employ an in-house great crested newt detection dog.

A three-year-old springer spaniel named Freya has been trained to spot the protected species. The Wessex Water region is home to a great number of the animals and it is an offence to damage or destroy their environment without a licence from Natural England.
