New chair for Industrial Strategy watchdog

The Bank of England’s chief economist has been appointed as the chair of the Industrial Strategy Council

The Bank of England’s chief economist has been appointed as the chair of the Industrial Strategy Council, an independent body that will assess the government’s progress in meeting its Industrial Strategy commitments.

Andy Haldane is responsible for research and statistics at the Bank of England and sits on the Monetary Policy Committee, which decides the UK’s official interest rate.

He will chair the first session of the Industrial Strategy Council in November, where he will be joined by business leaders, academics and civil society representatives.
